My sons and I do things to intentionally irritate one another. Far from being mean, this is one of the ways we bond. We love each other enough to know what makes the other tick; good and bad.
There's something to be said for being close enough to another person that you can push their buttons just enough that everyone has fun, and no one gets upset. That kind of familiarity is priceless in life. When we can be with people, and trust them enough with our quirks and flaws - even when they take liberties with teasing us with them, there's really nothing like it.
Being able to laugh at ourselves, particularly through the eyes of others is something everyone should learn how to do. So many things we face become easier to deal with as a result of appreciating the humor in our odd ways, or clumsy goofs. Nearly anything embarrassing can be lived down if you can laugh about it without an ounce of anger. Giving someone else permission to lighten the mood at your expense, providing it isn't viciously done, makes it possible to take yourself less seriously and enjoy the ride.
