The simplest fact seems to have completely forgotten by so many people today. It is the key to ending hate, the basis for bridging gaps, and the easiest thing to remember. Yet, on the whole, this fact is overlooked, or deliberately ignored.
Disagreement does not need to lead to intolerance, and hate. We are all individuals, and the very meaning of that is that we are NOT exactly the same. We see with different eyes, think with different minds, and act with different intentions. Why is it that so many want to be recognized as individuals, but then align themselves with others based on one or two things? Especially when those things are rooted in negativity.
I am not even certain that I can put into words how I feel about the state of society today. It doesn't take drastic, or unsavory measures to gain that sense of community we all crave on some level. It is possible to be your own person, and still feel like you're part of something; like you're similar enough to other people that you 'belong', without pushing negative energy on others to get there.
It seems, in general, that a person's race is an unnecessary fixation; particularly in claiming unjust treatment. I wish that everyone could understand that the longer it is the go-to reason for nearly every unfair act, it will continue to be an issue. No amount of violence against another person, regardless of color is justifiable; with the exception of preserving the lives of others in danger. All that race wars do are further the gap between us as a people, create stereotypes that aren't reflective of the mass majority, and confuse the real issues.
Why are we so eager to play the blame game? Finger pointing does little good, and just pushes us further into the pit of negative energy that creates all the conflict we claim to be up in arms about. As a people, we've gotten insanely good at generalizing, and bandwagoning. The problem is, the instances these things occur are rarely surrounding anything good. It's almost as if the moments, and events that are worth celebrating are cast off without much fanfare; coming together to enjoy the positive energy doesn't seem to be a focus, or goal for enough of us.
Sometimes the only way to move forward, is to completely let go of the past. The longer we continue to feed the fires of hatred and segregation, the more episodes of violence we will endure. My wish is that one day soon, there will be more people who understand and celebrate that we are all different, than those who are focused on vilifying one another because of those differences.
