It's easier to hold on to negativity, at least it only seems easier than reaching out for the positive. So much of the reason for that is that we already know the negative; we are familiar with the emotions and step-by-step process of the doom and gloom of most any situation. There is far more certainty in the negative, which is why many people cannot seem to let it go.
When we face something we are unfamiliar with, the fear of not knowing what will happen can thrust us back into that negative place. And all simply because it's what we know. It's the same with being in a crappy state of mind. The momentum of negativity has us so stuck, that making any moves toward the positive can feel like trying to sit up while on the Gravitron; difficult and even disorienting.
No matter how far happier times might seem, or how much effort it might take to move from under the gray cloud, or out of the unpleasant spot you find yourself in, the benefits always outweigh any work you may put in. One of the most important reasons to surround yourself with positive people is when those tough times present themselves, you have a buffer, not to mention additional motivators to seek the silver lining.
The strength and ground we gain from just one positive thought is incredible. If we just keep going, just continue allowing the possibilities of good in, we can put serious distance between ourselves and that black cloud. The unknown has more possibilities than the familiar has options. Embrace the unseen and think positive thoughts; lean on the people who hold you up. It is a far better way to live.
