The Buzz Doesn't Last Long, But What A High It Is

Summer. Summer, summer, summer...I cannot stop thinking about your light, airy breezes, warm sand beaches, crashing waves and near blinding sunshine. I'd like to just take the entire summer off and be a beach bum. Reading, writing, basking in the rays of intense heat...

But no, I live in Maine. Snow will be lingering in piles under trees and in shady areas until the end of May. Lawns will be murky brown and squishy, causing anyone who dares step off the pavement to sink and lose a shoe. The temperature will change from one hour to the next like it's a totally different season...oh wait, that's pretty much year 'round. All told, the time of year I wait for through brutal cold and blustery months, adds up to roughly two weeks of actual summer weather. Yes, fourteen days (if we are lucky). Sad.

Even so the blink of an eye is a coveted thing here in the northeast. And during the two and a half months designated as the summer season, those 14 days are dispersed here and there, so we don't get use to clear skies and beach weather too quickly. At least the climate isn't outright cruel.

The colors of fall are gorgeous, and the air is delicious smelling. The first snow is always a beautiful, and the last is a celebratory event. The clean smell of spring and the new life it brings is always something to smile about. None of these seasons, at least for me, carry half of the excitement and soul fire energy as those all too short, carefree 14 days of summer.
