Winter Is Sucky

Storm after storm, this snow is beyond old. I know I live in Maine. I know winter means snow. That doesn't mean that I can't get tired of it and be exasperated by the sheer redundancy the past few months have been.

For the first time in over a decade I am driving a vehicle without 4-wheel drive and frankly, it's zero fun in bad weather. One of my biggest pet peeves about winter in Maine is the ridiculous notion some people possess. Driving in wicked weather isn't something that proves a person a 'true' Mainer, and despite getting good experience keeping all four on the pavement, any intelligent person knows enough to STAY HOME when conditions are bad. The whole "you're from Maine, you should be use to it" mantra is tired and ignorant. Not every vehicle on the road here has AWD or 4WD; I mean there are models that simply do not have those features as options. The most telling feature of a Maine driver is the the intelligent assessment of safe driving conditions. 

It is my opinion that those who choose to drive during snow and ice storms and do so at normal/excessive speeds are the people who should 'be use to it' and use caution like their own and others' lives depend on it. Oh wait, it does. 

The key to driving well in inclement weather, is first and foremost, knowing when not to.
