Each year that passes since the towers were brought down, I wonder if there will ever come a time when I don't tear up the morning of nine-eleven. I wonder if my sons and their generation, too young at the time of the attack to grasp what was happening, will ever truly understand the impact, immediate and long lasting, that horrible day created.
Time might mute some of the stronger feelings of panic, disbelief, and sadness, but it will never erase the memory of the heartbreak, uncertainty, and surprising strength that a people united brought. In my lifetime, there is no possible way I will ever forget any of it. I will continue to feel the loss, but I will also remember the solidarity that was gained.
