I have been procrastinating in getting that area of the house organized for far longer than I should. Much like every area of a home should be suited for the activity it most often serves; we needed a workout area that was functional and free of hazards. When you're limited for a place to set up weights and mats, getting creative is key. Effectively splitting an open area for three specific and separate purposes wasn't easy, but we managed to do it.
Being left with a feeling of accomplishment is great, but hearing my son, who begrudgingly acquiesced to my request for assistance, say he felt productive afterward makes me feel like I scored big as a parent. He gets it! The understanding that work and effort can lead to more than the lack of interest at the start might suggest, has not been lost on my son. He is not part of the entitled masses of his generation. There is no better parenting moment than seeing the lessons taught be well-received.
We spent over an hour moving, cleaning and working together and that isn't something that happens often. We talked, laughed and I dare say bonded. Time well spent, and knowing we will both benefit from is another bonus.
When the day began with each of us doing the preview workout from 22 Minute Hard Corps, it really isn't much of a surprise that we had lots of energy to burn. Having him ask when the program is available to buy was another parenting win. Finding a fitness routine that keeps a 16 yr-old interested is challenging to say the least. A day of winning for sure <3
